It started with singing "Love And Marriage" for her neighbors, family members, and anyone who would listen when she was just three years old, and it never stopped - Melanie Ehrlich's love for entertaining was obvious from an early age.
Growing up, she was constantly performing in community theatre, school plays, and choirs, and always trying to learn more about the arts. Not wanting to limit herself, she also wrote, directed, ran lights, props, and costumes for various productions.
As she got older, she decided to combine her loves for teaching and learning with her love for performing, and helped out with local children's theatre productions, directed her high school's comedy troupe, and even ran an entire acting workshop for middle- and high-school kids. By the time she'd graduated high school, she'd directed numerous shows and skits, written several more, worked backstage on a number of shows, and, of course, performed whenever she could.
While all this was going on, Melanie was developing another one of her greatest talents, which was irritating her teachers. One of her favorite ways to do so was to take advantage of opportunities to read out loud in class - from novels, math textbooks, anything - and make lots of funny voices that would make the class laugh. It didn't occur to her at that point, though, that she could make a career out of it!
However, a growing interest in voiceover acting led her to seek out just that, and she enrolled in voiceover classes at the New York Voiceover Academy, taught by the esteemed Chuck McKibben, formerly of the Mel Blanc Studios in Hollywood, California. After soaking up as much wisdom as she could from her teacher and her classmates, she made her first demo and got to work.
Melanie did a variety of work in New York, including radio commercials, television and film, before she decided more or less on a whim to pick up and go study Korean language in South Korea for a few months, a wise move for anyone wanting to establish themselves in the New York voiceover market. Instead of giving up and putting her voiceover career on hold, however, Melanie simply adjusted her focus to be more appropriate to the local market - from primarily commercial work to mainly educational - and successfully continued doing voiceovers in Korea as well. So successfully, in fact, that she ended up staying three times as long as she'd planned, working full - time as a voiceover artist and taking in everything Korea had to offer.
Though she's no longer in Korea physically, she's left her mark in other ways - her voice can currently be heard all over the country, in classrooms, museums, and, most ubiquitously, as the voice of the popular Seoul City Tour Bus.
So, what's Melanie doing now? She's back in New York, continuing to work with and provide voiceovers for clients all over the world. However, knowing you can never learn too much, she's continuing to increase both her professional and personal skills by learning new things when and wherever she can.
Her biggest inspirations are Leonard Bernstein, Raffi, Karl Jenkins, the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas, Danny Kaye, and her great-uncle Gene.

"I tell ya, Melanie, when I hear your recording voice, I hear the sound of champagne corks popping!"
- James Morss, JBI (Jewish Braille Institute)
"Melanie was awesome to work with, and I can't wait to bring her more projects. Before we found her, we had totally given up on having in-game voices for our characters - the voices we had for an important character were just not working. But Melanie understood exactly what we wanted, and thanks to her, we've been able to truly bring that character to life. When we make our next game, I am going to make sure that we find every excuse possible to bring her in again."
- Jon Wofford, Apocalypse Train
"We receive very positive reactions to Melanie's warm and confident voice from the companies, in particular public and government enterprises, with whom we do business. We've found her voice color to be particularly well-suited for anything that calls for a clear-sounding voice, such as historical museum and art exhibit narrations. We recently recorded the stop announcements for the Seoul City Tour Bus together and we are sure to get similar positive reactions to this as well."
